PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to provide the reader with an application note for communicating

Profibus DP with the 455U-D radio modems.

This application should be read in conjunction with user manuals for details on powering and

programming 455U-D modems. The reader would also have a firm understanding of programming

and configuration of Profibus devices.

This application note was written around a Point to Multi-Point configuration. However the same

settings can be used for a Point to Point configuration.

MATERIALS

The materials used for this application were,

Siemens S7 300 PLC, CPU 314C-2DP,

Siemens ET200S Remote I/O,

Step 7 Programming Software,

455U-D Modems,

455U-D Configuraiton utility,

455U-D Configuration cable, Part No SER-RJ45

DB9 Male (Profibus Connection) to RS485 (455U-D Connection)

CABLES

The cables that need to be used are to be made as follows,

455U-D Configuration cable SER-RJ45

The cable used to program the 455U-D is a RJ45 (Modem end) to DB 9 RS232 (PC End)

To connect to the configuration port, use the following cable pin-out. Only pins 4, 5, 6 on the RJ45

are actually necessary.
